South Australia — Debt Recovery Resources
Courts, tribunals, consumer affairs and financial counselling resources for debt recovery in South Australia.
South Australia has a well-developed framework for civil debt disputes, centred on the South Australian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (SACAT) for smaller matters and the Magistrates Court of South Australia for larger claims. Consumer and Business Services SA (CBS) is the state's consumer protection body and also licences various industries including collection agents.
Note that Merion's primary operating jurisdictions are Queensland, Victoria, New South Wales and the ACT. The information below is provided as a reference for debtors and creditors in South Australia dealing with national or cross-border matters.
SACAT — South Australian Civil and Administrative Tribunal
SACAT hears civil disputes including debts up to $12,000 (as at the date of this page — check the SACAT website for current limits, as monetary thresholds are subject to legislative change). Proceedings are designed to be accessible and relatively informal. SACAT also handles residential tenancy disputes, equal opportunity matters and a range of administrative review applications.

For debts above $100,000, matters proceed to the District Court of South Australia or the Supreme Court of South Australia. All monetary thresholds are set by regulation and may change — verify current figures at the court's website.
