Courts, tribunals, fair trading and financial counselling resources for debt recovery in Queensland.
Queensland has a well-structured system of courts and tribunals for resolving civil debt disputes, alongside consumer protection bodies and a network of free financial counselling services. Queensland is one of Merion's primary operating states, and the information below reflects the bodies most relevant to commercial debt recovery in the state.
Merion operates in Queensland on a commission-only basis, recovering commercial debts in accordance with the ACCC/ASIC Debt Collection Guideline and Queensland consumer law.
QCAT — Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal
QCAT's Minor Civil Disputes jurisdiction handles claims up to $25,000 (as at the date of this page — thresholds can change; check the QCAT website for current limits). The Minor Civil Disputes process is designed to be accessible without legal representation; legal representation is generally not permitted except in limited circumstances. QCAT also handles residential tenancy disputes, building and construction matters, and a range of other civil disputes.
