TASCAT — Tasmanian Civil and Administrative Tribunal
TASCAT is Tasmania's unified civil and administrative tribunal, established in 2021. It hears a range of civil disputes including residential tenancy, guardianship and administration, and some consumer matters. For debt claims, TASCAT's jurisdiction is defined by its enabling legislation; check the TASCAT website for current information on monetary limits and eligible matter types, as these may change.

Magistrates Court of Tasmania
The Magistrates Court of Tasmania handles civil debt claims up to $50,000 (as at the date of this page — verify current limits at the court's website, as monetary thresholds are subject to legislative change). It is the primary venue for commercial debt enforcement in Tasmania. For debts above $50,000, matters proceed to the Supreme Court of Tasmania. The Supreme Court of Tasmania has no monetary limit for civil matters.

Consumer Affairs and Fair Trading Tasmania
Consumer Affairs and Fair Trading Tasmania (CAFT) is a division of the Department of Justice. It administers the Australian Consumer Law in Tasmania and a range of state-specific fair trading and licensing legislation. CAFT can investigate complaints about misleading conduct, unfair contract terms and unconscionable conduct, and provides guidance on consumer rights. It also licences collection agents in Tasmania.
