Western Australia — Debt Recovery Resources

Courts, tribunals, consumer protection and financial counselling resources for debt recovery in Western Australia.

Western Australia has a distinct court and tribunal structure from the eastern states. The WA Magistrates Court includes a dedicated Minor Cases procedure for smaller civil disputes, and the State Administrative Tribunal (SAT) handles a range of civil, administrative and consumer matters. Consumer Protection WA is the state's principal consumer protection body.

Note that Merion's primary operating jurisdictions are Queensland, Victoria, New South Wales and the ACT. The information below is provided as a reference for debtors and creditors in Western Australia dealing with national or cross-border matters.

State Administrative Tribunal (SAT)

The State Administrative Tribunal (SAT) is Western Australia's primary administrative and civil review tribunal. In the consumer and commercial space, SAT hears certain tenancy and minor civil disputes. For small civil debt claims, WA uses the Magistrates Court's Minor Cases procedure (see below) rather than a separate small-claims tribunal. The SAT website provides information on all matters within its jurisdiction.
